Atkinson Architects have recently completed this sensitive repair of a Grade II Listed farmhouse set within Dartmoor National Park. The project balances two very important aspects:
- Traditional techniques for scantle slate vertical wall cladding as protection from the rain.
- Contemporary techniques to improve thermal performance of old buildings through the use of a thick, insulated lime harling coat render beneath.
The result being a harmonious external appearance with the added benefit of vastly improved energy performance and reduction in costs to heat the farmhouse.
The scantle slate cladding re-uses Delabole ragged and graded pieces all of which were meticulously set out on site. We are currently using this combined system on several heritage projects throughout Devon and Cornwall.
