Enjoyment & Activity

Atkinson Architects revisit our Lopwell Dam group of buildings completed a decade ago to see how well they are looking.

The former pump house and adjacent barns are now a thriving watersports centre, cafe, bunkhouse facility and farmhouse on the banks of the River Tavy.

The Tamar Valley AONB location is a popular wildlife and bird-spotting enthusiast area. It is also designated SSSI rich in the tin mining history across the Devon and Cornwall borders.

It is always nice to see buildings being enjoyed by the public and supporting a wide range of outdoor activities on and around the water.

Our practice ethos of using the best materials for heritage building conservation is typified here – the stone, slate and timber buildings blend sympathetically into the surrounding landscape context. Improving with age and taking on a rich patina.
