Oak Frame Dwelling

Atkinson Architects recently completed oak frame barn set within Dartmoor National Park.

Having been felled by storms during winter 2021, the English Oak was kept on site and salvaged by the farm estate owner. The timber was then seasoned for two years before being used as the main building structure by local carpenters.

A massive post and beam frame supports a two-storey dwelling with new Douglas Fir cladding and a Cornish slate roof.

The new building has been constructed as a low-energy home around a sheltered courtyard – a happy environment for a family and their dogs.
