Farmstead Restoration in Dartmoor National Park
Over the past five years, Atkinson Architects has led the complete renewal of a historic farmstead set within Dartmoor National Park.
The project involved the careful restoration of nine traditional agricultural buildings and a main farmhouse, six of which are listed. These once-derelict structures have been brought back to life with a focus on authenticity, quality, and architectural sensitivity.
Working with regional artisan builders, including expert stonemasons, joiners, and scantle slate roofing specialists, we ensured every detail met the highest standards of craftsmanship.
This restoration is a model of architectural restraint, using a limited palette of traditional materials and vernacular detailing. The result is a quietly minimalist aesthetic that honours the farmstead’s heritage while blending in with the natural beauty of the landscape.
The restored buildings include: threshing barns, linhay, stables, coach house, cider barn and farmhouse.
