Atkinson Architects is pleased to be on-site with renovation works underway at 9 Warren Lane, The Dartington Estate. This project is part of an iconic series of dwellings designed by Lescaze and Henning for the Elmhirst family. The 1930s Modernist house will undergo significant renovation, along with the creation of a new studio.
This has been a wonderful and challenging project, made even more rewarding by our fantastic clients.
Sensitive modifications to the building’s construction and interior will enhance its thermal and environmental performance while preserving its beautifully designed architectural features and original details.
This is a key project demonstrating how twentieth-century Modernist buildings can be conserved and adapted for improved energy efficiency in the twenty-first century.
We have collaborated closely with South Hams conservation officers and Devon Building Control to develop construction details that meet the requirements of both authorities.
Our goal is to use this project as an exemplary case study in the careful conservation of British Modernism.
