The Grange Studio, Salcombe, Devon
The new studio is embedded into the steep hillside and forms an integral part of the dominant stone plinth that runs across the entire Grange Estate. This sinuously curved building provides artist studio space, garage, boat store and a roof garden.
Constructed from salvaged Salcombe schist stone, with oak framed windows set in deep reveals to give shadow to the elevation. The main views directed away from adjacent buildings out towards Salcombe Bar and the panoramic coastline.
Bespoke railings designed and made by Devon metalsmiths, Flameworks follow the curved stone plinth.
The roof garden and terrace are associated with the main house with extensive landscaping to form a series of horizontal green banks in front of the stone walls.
