Grade II Listed Devon Farm, Longhouse and Barns
The Nineteenth-century farmhouse and barns have been completely renovated and transformed into a single family estate dwelling. Set within the verdant Malborough valley, just inland from Salcombe, Lower Collaton Barn exhibits a balance of traditional conservation techniques alongside contemporary new buildings.
The form of the new studio wing and dining room optimises daylight and views towards the upward sloping meadow and walled garden, carefully designed around a dominant walnut tree. A simple palette of high quality natural materials, copper, slate and oak have been used to complement the local Devon schist stone barns.
The main farmhouse and lime kiln have all been fully renovated including environmental improvements, opened up interiors and large new picture windows set in the front facade to improve natural light.
The landscape to the south is a classic example of a traditional South Hams Devon walled garden, stocked with indigenous trees, flowers and shrubs.
